Rijksmuseum Boerhaave

After receiving “Rijksmuseum” status, the museum renovated its historic location and refreshed its brand identity. Since the old website no longer reflected its new position, they approached Fabrique to develop a new one that would convince first time, as well as previous visitors, to come and “Discover the world of science”.

Finding the balance

Our goal was to drive visitor traffic by selling the story first. We wanted to create an immersive experiences that showed off the highlights of the unique collection in a way that made people want to visit and discover the rest of the collection for themselves in person.

The biggest challenge was finding the right balance between compelling storytelling and showing what else there is on offer at the museum in a new way, without alienating an already loyal and well established fanbase of science enthusiasts.

Interacting with 5 centuries of scientific excellence

We solved the problem by designing a bright and colourful site that created context around some of the greatest of objects of their unique collection, yet was immersive and had clear call to actions to encourage visits. The site became a hub for the museum, it’s visitors and all of the activities it organises, making a tremendous starting point to explore five centuries of scientific excellence through rich storytelling and custom-made mini-games.
